This tri-centre holiday is the perfect choice for outdoor adventurers and wildlife lovers alike. You will spend three nights in each of Vancouver, Victoria, and Tofino giving you an ample amount of time in each for a truly memorable British Columbia experience. This fly drive also includes:
Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Vancouver. Upon arrival collect your rental car and proceed to the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver which is located in the heart of downtown and provides your base for the first three nights.
Widely regarded as one of the best cities in North America, Vancouver is bursting with character and filled with attractions. Meander through downtown, enjoying the outdoor cafes, bars and restaurants. Head down to Gastown, renowned for its steaming clock, and shop the quaint boutiques that adorn the streets. Take a walk along the waterfront promenade, watching the floatplanes take to the air and to Stanley Park where Totem Poles stand sentry, the gardens are awash with colour and the horse and carts bring back visions of a bygone era. A trip to Grouse Mountain is a must, with a stop en route at Capilano Suspension Bridge. There is so much to see and do that these two full days will be filled to overflowing!
Today you leave the city and head to the island – Vancouver Island. Drive to the port of Tsawwassen where you board a ferry to Swartz Bay on the Island, just a short drive from Victoria. Settle in at the Fairmont Empress, proudly occupying a regal position on the waterfront. You have a further two full days to enjoy the many attractions of the Victoria area. Without doubt, a whale watching excursion must be top priority. The waters here are renowned for the pods of Orca’s who call it home for part of the year. Other popular options include venturing to Butchart Gardens and Victoria Butterfly Gardens, and visiting Craigdarroch Castle. Victoria combines the best of land and sea to create a perfect island playground for adventurous outdoor enthusiasts – hiking, cycling, kayaking, diving and even ziplining can be enjoyed. A myriad of museums including an IMAX and a wealth of bustling bars and restaurants ensure your stay will be busy and varied.
It is a short but wonderfully scenic journey north today to the western coast of Vancouver Island, where Tofino awaits your arrival. Set in an ancient landscape within the traditional territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation (pronounced klaw-oh-kwee-awt), Tofino is surrounded by the vast, breathtaking expanse of the UNESCO Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Region—a region cherished for its profound biodiversity and environmental culture. Quiet inlets, old growth rainforest and rolling waves create a harmonic feeling of serenity and peace and of course, the outdoor opportunities are almost limitless.
Leaving Tofino behind, you’ll make your way to Duke Point in Nanaimo, sitting on the eastern coast, where a ferry carries you back across to Tsawwassen, Vancouver. Just a short drive brings you to Vancouver Airport, where you return your car rental and check in for your flight back to the UK.
