Itinerary

Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to New York’s Newark or JFK airport. Upon arrival, independently make your way to the New York Hilton Midtown, which provides your base for the first two nights of this incredible adventure.

Accommodation

As you can imagine, there’s so much do to and see during your time in the “Big Apple”. New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world with 150 museums, 500 art galleries, and 20,000 restaurants. Upper Manhattan is the cultural heart of the city, home to Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera House. Head to Fifth Avenue for the designer boutiques and big-name department stores; Wall Street heads up the appeal of Lower Manhattan and there’s historic Battery Park and trendy SoHo.

Midtown is all about Central Park, the Empire State Building, Radio City Music Hall and Broadway. No visit to the City is complete without experiencing Broadway, where historic venues stage bold new musicals, long-running hits and fascinating dramas every night of the week.

Accommodation

Today you will collect your rental car, leaving the big city behind as you head towards the majestic Hudson Valley, your base for the next two nights. This incredible area is steeped in history, natural beauty, and cultural richness with a diverse array of attractions and experiences for you to explore. From hiking and biking along the Hudson River Greenway to kayaking on the river itself, there are countless opportunities to immerse oneself in the region’s natural splendour.

Accommodation

Your next stop is the capital city of New York State, Albany. A vibrant and historic metropolis nestled along the banks of the Hudson River. At the heart of Albany lies its historic downtown area, characterised by stunning architecture dating back to the colonial era. The city’s skyline is punctuated by landmarks such as the New York State Capitol Building, a magnificent example of 19th-century Romanesque architecture, and the Empire State Plaza, a modernised complex housing museums, and cultural institutions.

Accommodation

Lake Placid, nestled in the Adirondack Mountains, is the next stop on this incredible itinerary and will be your base for the next two nights, offering ample time to explore. Known for hosting the Winter Olympics twice, once in 1932 and again in 1980, Lake Placid offers a wide range of winter activities, including downhill skiing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice climbing, and snowmobiling. In the summer, the ski and snowshoe trails transform into scenic hiking and biking paths. You can challenge yourself by climbing the 46 High Peaks or exploring the lakes by kayak or canoe. While you’re here, be sure to take a 2.5-mile stroll around Mirror Lake or play a round of golf on the lush, well-manicured fairways.

Accommodation

Today you will head to Thousand Island, a picturesque region located along the Saint Lawrence River, bordering the United States and Canada. Known for its breathtaking natural beauty, the area consists of over 1,800 islands, ranging from small uninhabited formations to larger islands with historic mansions and resorts.

Thousand Island is also home to notable landmarks such as Boldt Castle and Singer Castle, which showcase the area’s rich history and architectural grandeur. The region attracts visitors year-round, offering activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and winter sports. Additionally, it is famous for the origin of the Thousand Island dressing, which is believed to have been created in the early 20th century.

Accommodation

The magnificent Finger Lakes Region is the next stop of this incredible itinerary, specifically the bustling city of Syracuse. Often referred to as the “Salt City” due to its historical significance in the salt production industry, Syracuse has evolved into a modern urban centre renowned for its vibrant arts scene. The Everson Museum of Art showcases an impressive collection of contemporary and historical artworks, while the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) offers interactive exhibits and engaging activities for visitors of all ages.

Accommodation

Niagara Falls is your next destination, where you’ll spend two nights, the perfect amount of time to take in its iconic attractions, outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, and culinary delights. Straddling the border between New York State and Ontario, Canada, this breathtaking natural wonder captivates millions of visitors each year with its majestic beauty.

Marvel at the thunderous waters plunging over towering cliffs, often casting vibrant rainbows through the mist. For an unforgettable adventure, thrill-seekers can hop aboard the famed Maid of the Mist boat tour, bringing you up close to the roaring cascades for a truly immersive experience.

Accommodation

Today, you will depart from the majestic Niagara Falls and journey to the picturesque Chautauqua-Allegheny region, renowned for its stunning natural beauty. The area offers a diverse range of outdoor activities and historical landmarks. One of its most notable attractions is the Chautauqua Institution, a world-renowned centre for arts and culture. The region also boasts exceptional outdoor amenities, including Allegany State Park (the largest state park in New York) where visitors can enjoy hiking, wildlife observation, and scenic landscapes. Food enthusiasts will appreciate the thriving culinary scene, featuring farm-to-table dining, craft breweries, and wineries that highlight the region’s local flavours.

Accommodation

After a hearty breakfast, you’ll journey back to the Finger Lakes Region, arriving in Ithaca. Nestled among lush forests, cascading waterfalls, and the sparkling waters of Cayuga Lake, Ithaca is home to the tallest single-drop waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains. Outdoor enthusiasts will be captivated by the town’s natural beauty, with numerous hiking trails and kayaking opportunities available.

Beyond its scenic landscapes, Ithaca boasts a vibrant downtown scene filled with eclectic boutiques, art galleries, and cosy cafes. At the heart of it all is the Ithaca Commons, a lively pedestrian mall lined with shops and eateries, serving as a central gathering place for festivals, live performances, and community events.

Your final stop on this incredible adventure takes you to the heart of New York State, where you’ll spend your last night in the charming village of Cooperstown. Best known as the home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, Cooperstown boasts a rich historical and cultural heritage, making it a popular destination for tourists and baseball enthusiasts alike. The village is also renowned for its well-preserved 19th-century architecture, vibrant arts scene, and welcoming small-town atmosphere. Highlights include the Fenimore Art Museum, which showcases American folk art and Native American artefacts, and The Farmers’ Museum, offering a fascinating glimpse into rural 19th-century life.
