Itinerary

Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Upon arrival, transfer independently to your hotel, the Hollis Halifax, which is conveniently located in downtown, close to the waterfront.

Accommodation

We have allowed a full day for you to explore Halifax, as there is so much to see and do. First settled in 1749, today Halifax is Nova Scotia’s capital and the largest city in the Maritime Provinces. Visit Fort Redoubt National Historic Site, a 200-year-old fortification overlooking Halifax Harbour, or Halifax Citadel National Historic Site for terrific views of the city. The waterfront is majestic, with tall ships harboured and cafes opening out to views across the water.

63 Miles / 101 Kilometres

This morning collect your rental car and begin your adventure. It is a short, but beautifully scenic journey following the coastline. A stop at Peggy’s Cove is a must; a small fishing village built into the granite rock and protected by its historic lighthouse, which is one of the most photographed lighthouses in Martitime Canada. Perhaps make a stop at the pretty town of Mahone Bay too, before arriving into Lunenburg. ThisVictorian town has been lovingly restored to its historic splendour and renowned for its colourful colonial buildings. Quaint independent shops and restaurants provide for your evening exploits.

Accommodation

98 Miles / 158 Kilometres

Today you cross from the south to the north of the island, accompanied by beautiful scenery provided by Kejimkujik National Park. Before arrival into Digby, you should make a slight diversion to Annapolis Royal. Founded in 1605, it boasts 150 heritage buildings offering numerous unique shops, artists’ studios and galleries and is home to Fort Anne National Historic Site, a location of great historical significance. Digby, established in  1783 under the leadership of Rear Admiral Robert Digby, has a long sea faring history. Today, it is home to large scallop and lobster fishing fleets, yet retains its charming fishing village ambiance and is one of the best places from which to head out whale watching.

Accommodation

160 Miles / 257 Kilometres

This morning, take the three hour ferry journey from Digby, Nova Scotia to Saint John, New Brunswick, from where it is just a short drive to St. Andrews. We’ve allowed two full days for you to enjoy St. Andrews, a lovely seaside town full of character and old world charm. Stroll through unbeatable scenery or beautifully architecture, just as awe-inspiring as one another. While the streets retain their authentic charm the town hosts all the features of a thriving modern resort. St Andrews is one of the oldest and prettiest towns in the Maritimes Province. The old downtown commercial core is a shopper’s paradise, and is especially renowned for its handicrafts and woollen products. Take a historical walking tour, enjoy a round of golf and walk along pristine white sands or swim in the warm water bay. Visit the Farmers Market to discover the local crafts and produce and don’t miss out on an excursion to Kingsbrae Garden, a magical horticultural experience.

Accommodation

160 Miles / 257 Kilometres

Following the coastline, it would be a good choice to make a stop at Saint John to experience the reversing tide boat ride. Hugging the coastal cliffs, the 16 kilometre Fundy Trail Parkway is one of the itinerary’s highlights. Be sure to stop at Hopewell Rocks, New Brunswick’s most famous attraction. At low tide you can walk the sea floor, whilst at high tide the waters flood the caves. Your destination is Moncton, where a visit to Magnetic Hill provides the illusion of being pulled uphill by a magnetic force.

Accommodation

103 Miles / 166 Kilometres

Leaving pretty New Brunswick behind, you cross New Confederation Bridge to bring you to the smallest province in Canada – Prince Edward Island. Enjoy two days exploring the sand dunes and beaches, Prince Edward Island National Park and the island’s many other attractions. Explore Province House National Historic Site in Charlottetown, the site of Canada’s birthplace in 1867, and absorb the great charm of this colonial seaport.

Accommodation

115 Miles / 185 Kilometres

Take a short drive from Orwell Corner Historic Site to the southern tip of Prince Edward Island, where the ferry carries you across to Pictou, Nova Scotia. Your journey continues with a scenic drive to Cape Breton Island, which is reminiscent of a small Scottish island. Take the Cabot Trail into the highlands of northern Cape Breton, aligned by the lochs and glens once settled by Scottish Highlanders, and hugging the scenic coastlines settled by Acadians. From your resort, you can enjoy easy access to Cape Breton Highlands National Park, which is filled with moose, deer, lynx, bear and beaver.

Accommodation

116 Miles / 187 Kilometres

It’s an easy driving day today, so you can set off at your leisure for a short but beautiful journey to Dundee. View spectacular vistas, rolling seaside terrain and breathtaking seascapes as you approach Baddeck, a picturesque village on the shores of Bras d’Or Lake. We suggest a stop for a scenic cruise on the lake or simply wander the boardwalk. Your destination is Dundee at the eastern edge of Bras d’Or Lake.

Accommodation

184 Miles / 296 Kilometres

Today, your final drive brings you back to where your journey began in Halifax. The rugged Atlantic coast accompanies your journey, dotted with small fishing villages and many photo opportunities. This is your opportunity to discover anything you missed in Halifax at the start of your journey.

Accommodation

19 Miles / 31 Kilometres

This morning take the short ride back to Halifax Airport, return your rental car and check-in for your flight back to the UK.
