Connect with nature on Ontario’s scenic shoreline. This itinerary focusses on Ontario’s beautiful landscape of mountains, lakes and valleys, making it the perfect choice for those looking to get up close and personal with Canada’s amazing beauty. This fly drive includes:
Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Toronto. Upon arrival, collect your rental car and proceed to your hotel – The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto, which holds an enviable location in the heart of downtown, opposite the historic railway station and a few minutes walk from the harbourfront.
We have allowed two full days to explore Toronto, as this cosmopolitan city has a wide array of attractions to keep you busy both day and night. Don’t miss taking a trip up the CN Tower, for a bird’s eye view of the city, a stop at Ripley’s Aquarium and a visit to the Distillery Historic District. If you love shopping then you must visit St Lawrence Market and Kensington Market, offering a wealth of fresh produce and souvenir options, and the Eaton Centre, which showcases more than 200 retailers and restaurants. The harbour front is a bustling area where we suggedt a sightseeing boat cruise along the waterfront.
From the bustle of the city to the idylic peace of the Blue Mountains. A village-resort, an assortment of shops, restaurants and bars centre around a small lake at the foot of the mountain. During your two nights here why not take a ride on the Ridge Runner Mountain coaster, kayak on the lake, hike the mountain trails or take the more leisurely Segway tour or visit Scandinave Spa. There are plenty of activities to choose from in the area from bike trails, wineries, cideries, micro breweries, apple orchards, zip lines, and scenic caves adventures, as well as beaches and the town of Collingwood – you’ll be spoilt for choice.
It is a relatively short drive today to the harbour village of Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula. To the southeast, Bruce Peninsula National Park is known for the Bruce Trail footpath on the craggy Niagara Escarpment, and the Grotto, a wave-carved cave in Georgian Bay. The village lies next to Fathom Five National Marine Park, which is home to the Flowerpot Island sea stacks, 19th-century lighthouses and multiple shipwreck dive sites. A glass-bottom boat tour of Fathom Five is a must during your stay.
Today you will make your way across to beautiful Manitoulin Island aboard the MS Chi-Cheemaun Ferry. This short journey, disembarking at South Baymouth, takes one hour and forty five minutes. Manitoulin Island is a scenic region, where Native life and legend blend with European history to provide an unforgettable experience. Enjoy the Island’s stress-free environment, where life moves at a slower pace.
Your next destination is Killarney. Home to magnificent landscapes and the pristine provincial park. With sapphire lakes, majestic pine forests and ancient white cliffs, this wilderness park offers fantastic hiking, world-class kayaking, canoeing and more. The charming historic village of Killarney is located just 10 km from Killarney Provincial Park, dotted with quaint local eateries, and relaxing pubs, it makes a perfect choice from which to explore.
Algonquin Provincial Park is a ‘must see’ for jaw-dropping wildlife encounters and spectacular scenery. Summer brings a carpet of wildflowers and when Autumn comes, the forest is ablaze with reds, oranges, and yellows. Algonquin is home to a population of over 3,000 moose as well as white-tailed deer, black bear, and wolf. For something a little different, we recommend biking or hiking trails through the mountains, forests, and lakes. Your accommodation for the next two nights is a rustic but charming lodge within the park.
Today you make your way to your final destination of the journey. The pretty town of Huntsville is located in the hilly terrain of the Canadian Shield and this whole area is dotted with hundreds of lakes. Deerhurst is a resort filled with natural beauty, which boasts its own private beach! Spend your time relaxing, or head out onto the water on a canoe, kayak, boat or paddle board. There are also a number of hikes around the landscaped grounds. Downtown Huntsville has quaint souvenir and boutque shops, restaurants, bars and hosts a weekly farmers markets. Before you head home we recommend a trip on the Muskoka Steamships cruising aboard the RMS Segwun, the oldest operating coal-fired steamship in North America. The towns of Gravenhurst and Bracebridge are also close by and worth exploring.
After a final morning enjoying the delights of the Muskoka region, you will make the journey back to Toronto Airport, return your rental car and check-in for your flight back to the UK.
