As you can imagine, there’s so much do to and see during your time in the “Big Apple”. New York is one of the most exciting cities in the world with 150 museums, 500 art galleries, and 20,000 restaurants. Upper Manhattan is the cultural heart of the city, home to Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera House. Head to Fifth Avenue for the designer boutiques and big-name department stores; Wall Street heads up the appeal of Lower Manhattan and there’s historic Battery Park and trendy SoHo.
Midtown is all about Central Park, the Empire State Building, Radio City Music Hall and Broadway. No visit to the City is complete without experiencing Broadway, where historic venues stage bold new musicals, long-running hits and fascinating dramas every night of the week.
Today you will collect your rental car, leaving the big city behind as you head towards the majestic Hudson Valley, your base for the next two nights. This incredible area is steeped in history, natural beauty, and cultural richness with a diverse array of attractions and experiences for you to explore. From hiking and biking along the Hudson River Greenway to kayaking on the river itself, there are countless opportunities to immerse oneself in the region’s natural splendour.
Your next stop is the capital city of New York State, Albany. A vibrant and historic metropolis nestled along the banks of the Hudson River. At the heart of Albany lies its historic downtown area, characterised by stunning architecture dating back to the colonial era. The city’s skyline is punctuated by landmarks such as the New York State Capitol Building, a magnificent example of 19th-century Romanesque architecture, and the Empire State Plaza, a modernised complex housing museums, and cultural institutions.
Lake Placid, nestled in the Adirondack Mountains, is the next stop on this incredible itinerary and will be your base for the next two nights, offering ample time to explore. Known for hosting the Winter Olympics twice, once in 1932 and again in 1980, Lake Placid offers a wide range of winter activities, including downhill skiing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice climbing, and snowmobiling. In the summer, the ski and snowshoe trails transform into scenic hiking and biking paths. You can challenge yourself by climbing the 46 High Peaks or exploring the lakes by kayak or canoe. While you’re here, be sure to take a 2.5-mile stroll around Mirror Lake or play a round of golf on the lush, well-manicured fairways.
Today you will head to Thousand Island, a picturesque region located along the Saint Lawrence River, bordering the United States and Canada.
