The ideal holiday for the first-time visitor who wants to see all of Ontario’s top locations and incredible attractions! This itinerary explores Toronto, Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Muskoka Lakes, Georgian Bay and Thousand Islands. There are lots of experiences to enjoy en route and plenty of opportunities for sightseeing.
This fly drive includes:
Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Toronto. Upon arrival, make your way to Novotel Toronto, your base for the first three nights, which is located in downtown and offers great access to all of the city’s attractions.
We have allowed two full days to explore Toronto, as this cosmopolitan city has a wide array of attractions to keep you busy day and night. Don’t miss taking a trip up the CN Tower, for a bird’s eye view of the city, include a visit to the Royal Ontario Museum and make your way to the waterfront where harbour cruises give unobstructed views of this charming city. If you love shopping, Eaton Centre showcases more than 200 retailers and restaurants, and for the more quaint independent shopping, try the Distillery District.
No visit to Ontario would be complete without seeing the awe-inspiring Niagara Falls. En route, you pass the beautiful orchards and vineyards of the Niagara Peninsula, where you may choose to stop and sampling some of the magical ice wines on offer. There are many options for your time in Niagara – see the Falls on a boat tour, take to the skies for a birds eye view, and head behind the Falls for a different view entirely! If time allows, take the short drive to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a pretty historic village just a few miles away.
Journeying northwest, you continue to enjoy the scenery of Grand River Country. Perhaps make a stop at the village of Saint Jacobs, which is known for its quaint shops filled with local crafts or Kitchener, a character filled location. Your hotel sits close to the shores of the majestic Georgian Bay, where a myriad of water activities can be enjoyed. There are also hiking and biking trails surrounding the resort and even a Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster! The town of Cambridge, a short drive away, holds a quaint riverside setting.
It’s only a short drive, but a wonderfully scenic one through the Muskoka Lakes region. Magnificent Muskoka Country is home to sparkling lakes shimmering under pale blue skies and glorious white pines swaying in the breezes. Nestled in the heart of Ontario’s cottage-country region, a three-night stay in Huntsville at the Deerhurst Resort is the next stop on this incredible adventure. Set on the shores of Peninsula Lake and surrounded by forested hills, the resort provides a full range of recreational activities, from golf and spa treatments to boating and cycling. During your stay, explore the charming historic downtown with its boutique shops and cafes, or venture into nearby Arrowhead Provincial Park for hiking or canoeing.
Although a longer driving day, the splendid scenery en route makes it an enjoyable journey. Heading east, you pass the base of Algonquin Provincial Park, a must stop on any itinerary if you enjoy spectacular scenery and a little wildlife spotting. Shortly before arrival, you pass through Ontario Highlands, home of Maple Syrup and exciting rafting opportunities. Your destination is Ottawa, Canada’s capital city, steeped in history and boasting a wide array of museums and galleries. Take time to visit the Parliament Buildings, take a cruise along the Rideau Canal and explore the training centre of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
It’s a short journey into the southern plains of Ontario today. Be sure to stop at Upper Canada Village, sitting on the shores of the St. Lawrence River, where a living history museum depicts the early life of Canadian inhabitants. Kingston is the gateway to Thousand Islands, a myriad of tiny islands dotted through the water. You may choose to take a boat trip, meandering between the isles, or perhaps take to the skies on a helicopter flight for the ultimate birds eye view. This evening, why not select one of the waterfront restaurants which specialise in locally sourced seafood.
Today make the short journey back to Toronto. Hugging the coast along Lake Ontario, there are plenty of small villages where you can stop and explore. On arrival at the airport, drop off your car rental and check-in for your flight back to the UK.
