Calling all city dwellers and wine aficionados! This popular itinerary pairs the quirky city of Portland with the relaxed pace of Willamette Valley – lush with rolling green vineyards and quaint towns. This short break includes:
Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Portland. Upon arrival, proceed to The Nines. Widely regarded as the premium hotel in Portland, your hotel for the first three nights is located on Pioneer Square in the heart of downtown. Formerly a department store, it is filled with character; combining its historic features with contemporary design.
From your central location, the many attractions of Portland are right on your doorstep. This is a wonderfully walkable city, however there is also a very strong bike culture. Perhaps take a bike tour down to the waterfront or to see the city’s many attractions, before savouring dinner and sampling a beverage from one of Oregon’s urban wineries or one of the 50 craft breweries. Portland’s Southeast Wine Collective, a urban winery and restaurant service hand-crafted foods, is well worth a visit. If you are joyed by the outdoors, visit one of the many gardens; Washington Park, International Rose Test Garden, Forest Park, Portland Japanese Garden or Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. If attractions and museums are more your ruse, visit Oregon Zoo, Portland Art Museum, Oregon Historical Centre, Oregon Museum of Science and History or Pittock Mansion.
This morning collect your car rental. It is only a short drive today as you leave the city and meander through the bounteous landscape, filled with rich vineyards and farm-to-table produce. In four short decades, Oregon’s wine industry has moved from unknown to world-renowned. Award-winning pinot noirs placed Oregon on the global wine map, but the diverse geo-climate has enabled both warm and cool weather varieties to thrive. There are now 17 winegrowing regions within Oregon’s state lines. The naturally welcoming trait of the Oregonians ensures tours and tastings at the plentiful wineries are more reflective of drinking with friends than a sightseeing tour. Your accommodation is at one of Willamette Valleys most beloved and most luxurious inns.
It is a short drive back to Portland International Airport, so you may choose to route via Mount Hood for some truly dramatic vistas or perhaps take the coastal route and spend some time in a more picture-postcard setting, viewing Haystack Rock and the winding coastal roads. On arrival at Portland International Airport, return your car to the depot and check in for your flight back to the UK.
