Accommodation

103 Miles / 166 Kilometres

Pick up your motorhome and head to Cheyenne, Wyoming, the state capital and a true gateway to Cowboy Country. If possible, time your visit to coincide with Frontier Days, a legendary celebration of the Old West, but plan ahead, as this iconic event draws crowds from across the country.

242 Miles / 389 Kilometres

Today involves a long drive across open, tumbleweed-strewn country, but the journey is well worth it once you enter South Dakota. Wildlife such as deer and buffalo roam freely, and the natural silence is broken only by the occasional coyote howl. At night, the stars shine brighter than anywhere else.

38 Miles / 61 Kilometres

Mount Rushmore is one of America’s most iconic landmarks, instantly recognizable to visitors from around the world. Equally impressive, but less well known, is the Crazy Horse Memorial, a massive mountain carving honouring the legendary Native American chief. Both are must-see attractions that offer a powerful glimpse into history and culture.

66 Miles / 106 Kilometres

“The Deadwood Stage was comin’ over the hill,” perhaps carrying the legendary Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane! Be sure to explore the town’s historic streets, and enjoy a pint at the Old Franklin Hotel—or even Kevin Costner’s bar, a nod to his love of Deadwood while filming Dances with Wolves. For a touch of cinematic history, visit Devils Tower, the iconic location from Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

341 Miles / 549 Kilometres

The drive may seem long, but most of it is on the Interstate, so you should arrive at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody shortly after lunch. It might not sound exciting at first, but it’s well worth a visit, as Cody is the gateway to Yellowstone National Park.

233 Miles / 375 Kilometres

Enjoy a stunning drive through Shoshone Canyon to the eastern entrance of Yellowstone National Park, followed by a gentle forty-mile journey toward Grant Village. Along the way, expect occasional slowdowns as visitors pause to admire the abundant wildlife, moose with their young, bears, or herds of deer. Just before reaching Grant Village, take a turn toward Old Faithful, the famous geyser that reliably shoots thousands of gallons of boiling water up to 150 feet into the air at regular intervals.

128 Miles / 206 Kilometres

22 miles further on brings you out of the South Entrance of Yellowstone and into Grand Teton National Park. You only have to look at the Colter Bay website to see the majesty of the Grand Teton Mountains. Open June to September, this is not a cheap campground; but the location makes it worth it. Visit: the Flagg Ranch Resort, between Yellowstone and Grand Teton.

160 Miles / 257 Kilometres

Drive away from the Grand Tetons through the Great Divide Basin to the town of Lander. On your journey you will pass through The Wind River Indian Reservation, home of the Shoshone and Arapahoe Indian Tribes.

223 Miles / 359 Kilometres

The name Laramie conjures up pictures of the wild-west doesn’t it? With good reason. In its early days, Laramie was such a rip-roaring railroad town that it made good sense to build the territorial prison here. At the Wyoming Territorial Park, you can still peek into cells where desperadoes such as Butch Cassidy once did their time.

65 Miles / 105 Kilometres

For your final night on tour, you’ll be in Fort Collins, named by Money magazine in 2006 as the best place to live in the United States. Nestled in the foothills of the Colorado Rockies, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and reflect after several days of spectacular sights and experiences.

68 Miles / 109 Kilometres

It is just 60 miles to your motorhome drop in Denver. Make your way back to the airport and check in for your flight back to the UK.
