Maple Leaf Adventures has provided conservation-focused, big adventures aboard small ships since 1986. With a reputation as one of Canada’s top operators of small ship cruises, these multi-day excursions give guests one-of-a-kind experiences in some of the most beautiful and rare places in British Columbia, often in areas that were once under threat of destruction or in dire need of protection.

On the west coast, these Canadian wildlife tours explore the best regions. There are no roads, so you’ll travel by beautiful, classic expedition yachts. You will experience nature, wildlife, and cultural history in all areas you visit. Your crew includes naturalists, expedition guides, mariners, and a personal chef. Destinations the tours visit are Haida Gwaii, Great Bear Rainforest, Broughton Archipelago, Desolation Sound, Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands National Park.

The Destinations

Haida Gwaii – formerly the Queen Charlotte Islands, is an archipelago off Canada’s west coast. Explore its rich marine life, rainforests, and Haida culture, from ancient to modern, including Gwaii Haanas and the UNESCO World Heritage site SGang Gwaay (Ninstints).

Broughton Archipelago – This biodiverse region of 200+ islands is home to sea lions, killer whales, humpbacks, and Pacific White-Sided dolphins, making it perfect for whale watching. Seabirds, kelp forests, and sea stars add vibrant colour to this marine paradise.

Desolation Sound – Towering mainland peaks plunge into deep fjords, waterways, and passages, dotted with forested islands and rocky islets adorned with arbutus trees, defining Desolation Sound’s dramatic landscape.

Great Bear Rainforest – A land of fjords, islands, and river estuaries, the Great Bear Rainforest is the world’s largest intact temperate rainforest. Bears and wolves thrive here as they have for millennia. Explore its wildlife, waterfalls, and human history along one of the planet’s most spectacular coastlines, often called “the last stand of the great North American rainforest.”

Vancouver Island – Rising from the Pacific, Vancouver Island offers remote wilderness and wildlife often inaccessible by road. Trips reveal diverse landscapes, from northern rainforests to southern Mediterranean-like islands—plus whales, bears, birds, and marine mammals, all enriched by local culture, from Kyuquot elders to southern culinary artisans.

Gulf Islands National Park – With expert guides, explore hidden island havens in the southern Gulf Islands, where wildflowers bloom and red-barked Arbutus line the shorelines, all from the comfort of your expedition ship.
