Accommodation

119 Miles / 191 Kilometres

Pick up your motorhome from the Cruise America depot in Chicago and head east along the shores of Lake Michigan into Indiana. Stop in Gary, the birthplace of Michael Jackson, before crossing into Michigan and reaching your first overnight stop near the lake’s superb beaches. Along the way, explore the Indiana Dunes National Park or Warren Dunes State Park, and consider visiting the Curious Kids Museum in nearby St. Joseph, which encourages discovery, wonder, and awe.

190 Miles / 306 Kilometres

On the way to Detroit, the home of Motown, you’ll pass through Battle Creek, where Dr. Kellogg invented cold breakfasts, and can enjoy the thrills of the Full Blast water park. Just a half-hour from Detroit, explore the Henry Ford Museum, a vast complex dedicated to the motor industry, and don’t miss the Arctic Ring of Life at the Detroit Zoo—the world’s largest polar bear exhibit, featuring the unique 70-foot-long Polar Passage tunnel for an up-close view of diving polar bears and swimming seals.

231 Miles / 372 Kilometres

Cross from central Detroit into Canada via bridge or tunnel, passing through Chatham, London, and Cambridge, and even crossing the River Thames, to reach your multi-award-winning campground just 20 miles from Toronto. Be sure to visit the CN Tower, which held the title of the world’s tallest freestanding structure until 2007.

80 Miles / 129 Kilometres

Toronto may tempt you to extend your stay, but if you continue, your route follows the shore of Lake Ontario toward Niagara Falls. Along the way, visit the Welland Canal, whose eight locks lift ships to bypass the 173-foot drop of the Falls. Your campground is just ten minutes from Niagara, where you can take the iconic Maid of the Mist boat tour. Don’t miss Niagara-on-the-Lake and at least one nearby world-class winery, such as Chateau des Charmes or golfer Mike Weir’s estate.

216 Miles / 348 Kilometres

Cross back into the United States, passing Buffalo, and head toward Cleveland. While this city may tempt you to extend your stay, begin with the striking I.M. Pei-designed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, where you can immerse yourself in the soundtrack of your life. Along the way, stop at Presque Isle State Park near Erie, and near your overnight stop, explore Aurora Farms Premium Outlet Mall, Geauga Lake, and Wildwater Kingdom.

114 Miles / 183 Kilometres

If you have children or are simply young at heart, make a stop after about 80 miles at Cedar Point Amusement Park, famously known as The Roller Coaster Capital of the World, where thrilling rides draw visitors from across the globe. After enjoying the excitement, continue for another hour to Stony Ridge for your overnight stay. Along the way, visit the Inland Seas Maritime Museum in Vermillion, which celebrates the fascinating history of shipping.

245 Miles / 394 Kilometres

Return to Chicago in about four hours, crossing from Michigan into Illinois. Your campground offers a convenient morning drive back to Cruise America, but don’t miss the fun next door at Wild West Town, a full-service attraction enjoyable for both adults and children on your final night. Make time to visit the Illinois Railway Museum in nearby Union, the largest of its kind in the United States.

17 Miles / 27 Kilometres

Allow a good two hours to get back to the Cruise America Chicago depot, especially if driving in rush hour. Return your motorhome, make your way to O’Hare airport and check in for your flight back to the UK.
