This evening is spent in a warehouse which is now a characteristic boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Lancaster.
A short drive brings you to Gettysburg. It holds a rich history and heritage and is predominantly known for Gettysburg Battlefield, the site where during a three-day period in 1863, thousands died in the American Civil War. In addition to a visit to Eisenhower National Historic Site, we suggest you enjoy a traditional tavern meal at one of the quaint local eateries.
Once an old steel town, Pittsburgh has now been transformed into a true renaissance city with modern cathedrals, great shopping and restaurants. A visit to Pittsburgh would not be complete without seeing the Andy Warhol Museum, the largest museum dedicated to a single artist’s life and work.
Enjoy a scenic ride to the capital of West Virginia – Charleston, founded in 1794. The option of a trip out of the city along the Midland Trail Scenic Highway from Charleston to White Sulphur Springs takes you past the rugged New River Gorge.
Today’s journey takes you through the beautiful Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains, an area that Thomas Jefferson called the ‘Eden of the country’ His home, described as an architectural masterpiece, can be visited in Montecello. Ash Lawn Highland, the 535-acre plantation home of President James Monroe, hosts farm and craft demonstrations and entertainment in its landscaped grounds.
Take a scenic drive to Williamsburg, and possibly visit one of the plantations along the way. Williamsburg has much to offer, including Colonial Williamsburg, the most extensively restored 18th-century town in the United States and Jamestown Island where America’s first English settlement was established. Perhaps drive out of the city and visit exciting Busch Gardens filled with rides and entertainment or go shopping and purchase some famous Williamsburg pottery.
Today enjoy a leisurely drive to America’s fantastic capital city – Washington D.C. The next two days will be filled with sightseeing. Visit the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials, Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans and Iwo Jima Memorials. Explore the White House, Capitol Building, Smithsonian’s many museums and Arlington Cemetery.
A short drive brings you to the bustling city of Baltimore. Its glittering harbor, National Aquarium, the Davis Planetarium and the World War II submarine USS Torsk are all well worth a visit. The Inner Harbour offers unique shopping, live entertainment and a range of restaurants.
Today’s short 103-mile journey takes you back to Philadelphia, where you will return your rental car and check-in for your flight back to the UK.
