In addition to sampling Baltimore’s nautical vibe and fabled attractions, you’ll explore the nation’s capital and venture into spellbinding Shenandoah National Park for an adventure in the great outdoors. With short driving distances between each location, this triple centre makes for a great week away discovering the diversity of the USA’s east coast. This holiday itinerary includes:
Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Washington, DC. Upon arrival, proceed to your hotel, Fairmont Washington DC, which holds a great location in the Georgetown area of the city.
Perhaps the most charismatic city on the eastern seaboard, Washington, DC is an incredibly pretty city, bustling with fabulous restaurants and bars and too many attractions to name. Whilst in downtown, make sure you visit the Jefferson and Lincoln Memorials, Smithsonians many museums, the Capitol Building and, of course the White House. Their close locations along The Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue mean that they are best visited on foot, on a biking tour, or even a Segway tour. There are also two great museums which are a must; Newseum, which is filled with media paraphernalia and the days front covers from around the world, and The Spy Museum which provides an insight into the world of espionage throughout the generations.
This morning collect your car rental as today you leave the big city behind and make the incredibly scenic journey to Shenandoah National Park. We suggest a stop ay Luray en route, where you can descend beneath the earth into the eerily beautiful Luray Caverns. The final part of your route is along Skyline Drive, which offers perhaps the most incredible vistas in eastern USA. Shenandoah Valley has over 500 miles of hiking trails, winding through lush forests and valleys filled with wildflowers, trickling streams and waterfalls. We have allowed a full day for you to explore. The more active may choose to take a horse riding excursion from Skyland Resorts onsite stables.
Leaving Virginia behind, you travel across into Maryland and the great city of Baltimore, which is affectionately known as ‘Charm City’ and boasts almost three hundred years of history. Take a trip to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, where you can soar 27 storeys into the air at the Top of the World Observation Deck in the World Trade Centre, explore the World War II submarine, Torsk, and visit the National Aquarium. Why not enjoy the distinct marine feel to this wonderful city by sampling the seafood dining on the waterfront?
Make the final journey back to Washington Dulles Airport, where you return your car rental and check in for your flight back to the UK.
