Itinerary

Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Toronto. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel which is located in the heart of the city. Enjoy a little time to relax before meeting your Tauck Tour Director and travelling companions at the Royal Ontario Museum for a welcome dinner. Dinner included.

Accommodation

Today you journey to thundering Niagara Falls. This morning hop onboard a boat cruise for an up-close view of the plunging waters and misty spray created by the Falls. Lunch is enjoyed in the charming, Victorian town of Niagara-on-the-Lake (at your own expense), before making the return journey to Toronto for an afternoon spent at your leisure. Breakfast and dinner included.

En route to Canada’s capital city of Ottawa, enjoy a morning cruise on the St. Lawrence River through the scenic Thousand Islands, a region of postcard-perfect island escapes, from charming cottages to mansions. Disembark in Rockport and continue to the heart of Ottawa, where your hotel is reminiscent of a French château. Dine here with views of Parliament and the Rideau Canal Locks, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Enjoy a guided visit to the city’s grand Parliament Buildings, including the House of Commons, where vaulted ceilings, marble floors and stone walls adorned by hundreds of gargoyles create a grand feel. Next, join a guided tour of the Canadian Museum of History. Dating back to 1856, it is one of Canada’s oldest public institutions and showcases Canadian history, archaeology, ethnology and cultural studies. Spend the remainder of the day enjoying city sights as you wish. Breakfast included.

Depart for French-speaking Montreal this morning, located in the province of Quebec. Enjoy lunch at the privately-owned Château Vaudreuil, a historic hotel set in sumptuous gardens on the shores of the Lake of Two Mountains. Afterward, a local guide provides an introduction to life in the province as you tour the city. Dinner tonight is at leisure at your regal landmark hotel. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Take a walking and tasting tour through Old Montreal, with cobblestone streets lit by gas lamps and city squares graced with 18th and 19th century buildings reminiscent of the history and romance of Old World Europe. Sample epicurean delights for which Vieux-Montreal is famous for. contrasting environment to the bustling new city and sample an array of epicurean delights. The rest of the day is yours to do as you wish. Perhaps a visit to the fashionable shops of Place Ville Marie and St. Catherine or explore the underground city. This evening, enjoy culinary traditions at a popular local restaurant. Breakfast and dinner included.

Accommodation

Head for Quebec City, following the mighty St. Lawrence River to Trois-Rivières; stop to visit a traditional Québecois sugar shack. In springtime, these Cabanes à sucres collect the natural bounty of local trees to produce pure maple syrup, adding nuances of caramel, wood, and smoke to achieve mouth-watering flavors. Continue on to majestic Montmorency Falls – 98 feet higher than Niagara Falls! – for a guided tour and a gondola ride. Montmorency is not far from Quebec City, your home for the next three nights. Your hotel, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, sits up high on a bluff above the mighty St. Lawrence River; below lies historic, walled Old Quebec. Tonight enjoy dinner at leisure at your castle-like hotel. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

On a city orientation tour, see Quebec’s landmark historical sites, including La Citadelle de Québec, the largest British fortress built in North America – overlooking the St. Lawrence River – and the Plains of Abraham. Today a city park, this was the site of a 20-minute battle between French and British troops in 1759 that changed the continent’s destiny. Venture outside the city to Île d’Orléans, an island of red-roofed farm houses and fields of agricultural produce, and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. The rest of the day is free for you to indulge in the amenities of your newly renovated hotel, including a spa renowned as the best in the area. Outside, the views of the Old City and the St. Lawrence River are equally rewarding, adding to the many delights of your stay here. Breakfast and lunch included.

Enjoy a guided tour of your hotel and its colourful past dating to the 19th century; international luminaries have always been drawn here. The rest of the day is yours to see the city at your own pace and according to your own inclinations. In Old Quebec – once the capital of New France – cobblestoned, pedestrian-only streets still feel like 17th-century Europe. This remarkably preserved historic district consists of the Upper Town’s citadel, ramparts and gates, and Lower Town, lined with 17th- and 18th-century houses. The only fortified city north of Mexico, historic Quebec is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You may wish to visit a museum, relax and do some people-watching at a French café, or explore the sights by horse and carriage (at an additional cost). Join your fellow travellers for a farewell dinner with musical entertainment at your hotel. Breakfast and dinner included.
