Accommodation

97 Miles / 156 Kilometres

Pick up your motorhome from Cruise America in Los Angeles and head north on Route 101 toward the Santa Barbara area, about four hours away. Often called “America’s Riviera,” the region’s beaches and restaurants make for a perfect stop along the way.

326 Miles / 525 Kilometres

Today’s journey heads toward San Francisco, with a must-see stop at the famous Hearst Castle in San Simeon, about 65 miles into your drive. Take time to enjoy the breathtaking coastal scenery along Big Sur and Pebble Beach, and, if time allows, stop in Carmel and Monterey, consider adding an extra night to fully explore this incredible area. Continue north and cross the iconic Golden Gate Bridge into the San Francisco Bay Area.

169 Miles / 272 Kilometres

Start early today for the drive across California to the town of Midpines, the gateway to your first National Park of the trip, Yosemite. As you leave San Francisco, watch for stunning views across San Pablo Bay. Spend two nights near Yosemite, giving you ample time to explore the park. It’s just under an hour’s drive from your base to the park itself.

138 Miles / 222 Kilometres

Today will be a long day, so an early start is recommended. Enjoy a leisurely drive through Yosemite National Park once more, then head south through the Sierra National Forest to Fresno, allowing time for a lunch break. From there, take the winding easterly Route 198 into Sequoia National Forest, home to some of the world’s largest trees, and near the historic city of Visalia.

378 Miles / 608 Kilometres

Today’s destination is Las Vegas, with a two-night stay in the heart of the action on the Strip. It’s an almost seven-hour drive, mostly on the freeway, but well worth it to reach the “Entertainment Capital of the World.” If you’re travelling between September and June and can extend your route, consider a detour through Death Valley for an unforgettable experience.

152 Miles / 245 Kilometres

Today you’ll reach the third National Park of this tour, Zion National Park in Utah, just three hours from Las Vegas. While reminiscent of Yosemite and Sequoia, Zion offers a completely different and spectacular landscape. Your overnight stop is nearby in Glendale, placing you right in the heart of Utah’s natural wonders.

73 Miles / 117 Kilometres

Today’s drive is short, just 43 miles, taking under an hour, to the Bryce Valley area, located about 12 miles from the entrance to Bryce Canyon National Park. Bryce offers a landscape completely different from the other parks, and it’s well worth spending a full day exploring. Giant amphitheatres filled with pink rock pinnacles that glow at sunrise and sunset provide a stunning backdrop to hundreds of hiking and biking trails, back roads, and guided horseback rides.

149 Miles / 240 Kilometres

Depart around 8 am and plan to reach the Flagstaff area in Arizona by early evening. Along the way, take time for a three- to four-hour trip on Lake Powell, a stunning man-made lake on the Colorado River. If possible, consider extending your visit to include a trip to Antelope Canyon, a photographer’s dream.

139 Miles / 224 Kilometres

After your overnight stay high above sea level, consider taking the nearby Skyride up to 11,500 feet for sweeping views of the Grand Canyon, Coconino National Forest, and Flagstaff itself. There are hiking trails in the area, or you can head south to Walnut Canyon to explore its ancient cliff dwellings carved into the rock walls. Next, drive just 45 miles west to Williams, the gateway to the Grand Canyon, where you’ll stay for two nights. There are several ways to visit the Grand Canyon: by car, by rail on the Grand Canyon Railway, or via guided tours.

174 Miles / 280 Kilometres

On the homeward leg today, there’s no need to rush, spend the morning enjoying some of the local activities in Williams. The drive is 125 miles, with 82 miles along the legendary Route 66, where you can soak up the nostalgia and iconic scenery. Arrive in Kingman, set in the high desert surrounded by the Hualapai Mountains. Nearby, you can see traces of pioneer wagon ruts from the historic Fort Beale Wagon Trail.

75 Miles / 121 Kilometres

The penultimate day is a long one, but filled with remarkable stops. Head west and make your first stop at another icon of the Colorado River, the world-famous Hoover Dam on the Arizona–Nevada border. Take time to admire this engineering marvel before continuing into Boulder City. From there, travel south, skirting the Providence Mountains, and then divert to the Mojave National Preserve.

300 Miles / 483 Kilometres

It’s a 150 mile drive back to Carson and Cruise America this morning – and it will take at least 3.5 hours. Make your way back to Los Angeles airport and check in for your flight to the UK.
