Explore some of the most beautiful wintery alpine sights in North America as you visit Banff, Jasper, Edmonton, Lake Louise and Calgary. This fly drive includes:
Depart the UK on your scheduled flight to Calgary. Upon arrival, collect your rental car and proceed to the Le Germain Hotel, Calgary, where you will spend the first night of your amazing adventure. Calgary is a wonderful city to wander, with some quaint shopping and dining options to choose from.
Today you start your epic journey into the majestic Rockies. Whether you’re wanting to stroll through snow-covered streets, cosy up by a fire with a decadent hot chocolate, go skiing or snowboarding on freshly groomed runs or ice skate over a frozen lake – there’s enchanted winter experiences for everyone in the mountains. Journeying from Calgary to Banff, you’ll witness a never-ending procession of mountains, glistening lakes and jagged peaks, providing plenty of photo opportunities. Take your time enjoying the journey to Banff, as you have three nights to explore all that this incredible town offers. Perhaps you’d like to experience life as a musher, heading out with a team of huskies on a sledding experience. Maybe you’d enjoy a horseback ride through the snowy peaks? A guided hike in the crisp winter air ensures you see all the top spots whilst staying safe. Back in town, relaxing in a steaming hot tub relaxes aching limbs at the end of a busy day.
Make sure you enjoy a hearty breakfast, as another action-packed wintery day lies ahead. It is just a short drive from Banff to picturesque Lake Louise, which is still located within Banff National Park. We suggest taking the scenic Bow Valley Parkway route which runs parallel to the Trans-Canada highway. Winter is a great time to get outside in Lake Louise. The air is fresh and crisp and the snow-blanketed landscape is so beautiful and quiet. Snowshoeing is a great choice for a fun winter activity because it’s easy to learn, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages, fitness levels, and experiences. Other wintery adventures we recommend are snowmobiling through breathtaking scenery, passing frozen waterfalls, and incredible mountain vistas along the way. Perhaps you like to take things a little slower if so, there are many public sleigh rides available in Lake Louise. The sound of jingling sleigh bells and the sights of the magical snowy landscape makes you feel like you are a character in your very own fairy tale.
Today, travel through the spine of the Canadian Rockies along the amazing Icefields Parkway and encompass the ultimate glacier exploration. From walking on ancient ice with the Ice Explorer ride to standing on a glass platform almost one thousand feet in the air at the Glacier Skywalk. Your destination is Jasper, where you spend the next three nights exploring more of mother natures incredible beauty. Winter in Jasper is the perfect time to engage in your favourite cold weather activities including Skating, Snowshowing, Ice Climbing, Dog Sledding, X-Country Ski Hiking and so much more.
If you can tear yourself away from the wintery activities in Jasper, the next stop on this itinerary is Edmonton, which is the provincial capital of Alberta. You will have three nights to explore this city, which is unique in many ways including being home to the world’s largest shopping centre, West Edmonton Mall. The mall offers an expansive water park, amusement park, indoor skating rink, mini golf park, over 800 stores, and over the Christmas period looks like Santa’s very own Canadian workshop. Edmonton embraces winter. There are iced pathways to skate around and castles made of icicles. You may even want to join some locals in skijoring, Edmonton’s version of dog-sledding. Another great way to see Edmonton is on one of many segway tours of the city, the perfect way to see Edmonton’s winter wonderland.
Today you make the 177 mile journey back to Calgary International Airport, where you return your rental car and check in for your flight back to the UK.
