Nestled in the splendid Cariboo region, this family-owned working ranch harmonises beautifully with its surroundings. Located between Edge Hill Mountains and Fraser Canyon, guests can drive to the ranch, which is approximately 5-1/2 hours from Vancouver, or fly directly to the Ranch’s own paved 3400 ft. runway (CBJ4). Alternatively, Echo Valley can transfer you from Kamloops (the airport or a hotel).

Sitting high in the mountains of Zion National Park, Zion Mountain Ranch not only offers perfect vistas, but also an ideal base for exploring the vast area. Choose to stay in one of the individually furnished cabin suites; perfect for couples or small families, or select one of the larger, lavishly furnished lodges; which suit longer stays. Each accommodation is unique, so amenities vary, but all are reflective of the environment which surrounds them. Enjoy a myriad of outdoor activities including horseback riding, mountain biking, canyoneering and fly-fishing, then return to the Lodge and indulge in hearty dining at The Buffalo Grill.

This fabulous ranch, located less than two hours from Dallas, sits on 1,500 idyllic acres of North Texas Hill Country with the Brazos River weaving through it. The unique shops and historic downtown square of Graham are just minutes away.

Why choose ranching?

  1. Escape to Nature: Ranches are typically situated in rural areas, allowing you to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature. The scenic landscapes, fresh air, and wide-open spaces provide a rejuvenating environment.
  2. Outdoor Activities: Ranches offer a plethora of outdoor activities such as horseback riding, hiking, wildlife watching, off-road SUV rides, archery and in some cases, even cattle drives.
  3. Authentic Western Experience: North America has a rich history of ranching and cowboy culture. A ranch holiday offers you the chance to experience this heritage first-hand through activities like rodeos and campfire cookouts.
  4. Family-Friendly Environment: Ranch holidays are often family-friendly, with activities suitable for all ages. It’s an excellent opportunity for families to bond, create lasting memories, and experience outdoor adventures together.
  5. Culinary Experiences: Many ranches offer farm-to-table dining experiences, where guests can enjoy fresh, locally sourced meals prepared with ingredients grown or raised on the ranch.

Ranch types

There’s a wide choice of ranches across the USA and Canada, each offering a different style of experience, so finding the right fit is key. There are three main types: Resort Ranches, Dude Ranches and Working Ranches. Here’s a brief overview to help you decide which suits you and your travel companions.

Resort Ranch
Resort ranches are typically larger, purpose-built for guests, combining horseback riding with activities such as fishing, rafting, cattle drives, cowboy cookouts and guided hikes. Most feature a swimming pool and many also offer a spa. These ranches are generally higher-end, with accommodation ranging from main ranch houses and log cabins to luxury tented lodges. Structured, and sometimes personalised, daily activity programmes cater to guests of all ages and abilities.

Dude Ranch
Dude ranches (also known as guest ranches) cater to a wide range of interests and are ideal for those seeking an equestrian-focused holiday. Horseback riding is central to the experience, complemented by a weekly programme of classic Western activities such as rodeo visits, square dances, barbecues and outdoor pursuits. Accommodation is typically simple and in keeping with the ranch style, ranging from cabins and lodge rooms to shared homes with private bedrooms. With riding suited to all abilities, dude ranches are a great choice for families and first-time ranch visitors.

Working Ranch
A working ranch offers a truly hands-on cowboy experience. As livestock and crops are actively managed, guests take part in day-to-day ranch life, which may include cattle driving, fencing repairs, roping and animal care. Evenings are often spent sharing meals with the cowboys or around the campfire, with occasional opportunities to sleep under the stars. Accommodation is usually basic, such as bunkhouses, but the authentic, immersive experience is unlike anything else.
