Whether you choose to hike, bike, partake in Jeep experiences and river expeditions, or simply relax and enjoy the scenery on beautiful scenic drives in the national parks, Moab’s central destination between Arches and Canyonlands National Parks makes it a great place to base yourself during a stay in Utah. Moab’s unique combination of small laid-back dessert town, astounding scenery and the cool waters of the Colorado River has made it one of the most sought after destinations in the southwest.  Within minutes of leaving the town of Moab, you will find yourself surrounded by the red rock of Arches National Park. Also reachable in under an hour are Canyonlands National Park or Dead Horse Point State Park which offers visitors amazing views of the snaking meanders of the Colorado River 2,000 feet below.

Utah’s Colorado Riverway is a scenic wonderland of colourful cliffs, river-carved canyons, lush bottom lands, and massive sandstone spires. Highways 128 and 279 parallel the river for many miles, and are both Utah Scenic Byways. From mild to wild, Moab has an abundance of river recreation opportunities available to suit any taste. The Fisher Towers section of the Colorado River is more suited for a family rafting experience whereas Westwater and Cataract Canyons provide a thrilling class IV white water rapids. Alternatively take out a canoe or a kayak or enjoy a jet boat ride.

Moab

Moab, Utah, home to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, is surrounded by some of the most stunning red rock landscapes on Earth. Moab’s unique combination of small resort town hospitality, beautiful scenery and the cool waters of the Colorado River has made it one of the most sought after destinations in the American Southwest.

While exploring the most unique scenery in the American Southwest, visitors can relax and experience the small-town hospitality of Moab. Moab’s perfect climate has made it a magnet for year-round outdoor events and festivals, and the downtown district has responded with a great collection of restaurants, microbreweries, shops, and galleries.

Arches National Park

Arches National Park contains the world's largest concentration of natural sandstone arches. Although over 2,000 arches are located within the park's 76,518 acres, the park also contains an astounding variety of other geological formations. Colossal sandstone fins, massive balanced rocks, soaring pinnacles and spires dwarf visitors as they explore the park's viewpoints and hiking trails.

Canyonlands

Canyonlands is the largest national park in Utah (more than 500 square miles), offering awe-inspiring views across the valleys which stretch as far as the eye can see. The Colorado and Green Rivers divide Canyonlands into four districts - Islands in the Sky, The Needles, the Maze and the rivers themselves - each with its own distinct character. The easiest way to see the park is with a visit to the Island in the Sky district, only 32 miles (51.5 kilometres) from Moab. The Island in the Sky offers many pullouts with spectacular views along the paved scenic drive. Hiking trails and 4X4 roads access backcountry areas for day or overnight trips.
