Boston is a city rich in history and culture, so head out and explore. Take time to visit the waterfront, where seafood restaurants overlook the bustling harbour bringing the freshest ingredients to the table. From here you can take a whale watch boat tour or perhaps a catamaran trip out to the islands, and you can also find the city’s Aquarium. Follow the Freedom Trail, a walking route that starts at Copley Park and traces many historical attractions. Today you will collect your rental car and leave the big city behind. From a night out on the town with nationally acclaimed cuisine with 75 walkable restaurants, theatre, music, and entertainment to outdoor activities such as biking, hiking, fishing, sailing, whale watching and sunset cruises. Year-round, you can enjoy tax-free shopping, walking tours, historic sites and antiquing.

Why not discover the landscapes of New Hampshire’s coast on our small-group bike tour?

This morning you will leave the coastal town of Portsmouth and head inland to the town of Meredith. Meredith sits in the heart of the Lake Winnipesaukee Region and serves as the gateway to New England’s majestic White Mountains. During your two nights in Meredith, there is so much to see and do. There are family attractions, historic sites, concerts, country fairs, nature tours, and fun festivals that provide enjoyment for all interests and ages. For outdoor enthusiasts, the options are almost endless with choices that include water sports, boat rides, fishing tours, and hiking and biking trails. For avid shoppers and food lovers, the quaint town offers a variety of distinctive shops, antique galleries, and an array of restaurants with unique back-drops from rustic barns, antique homes, renovated mills and not forgetting lakeside and al fresco dining.

Accommodation

85 Miles / 137 Kilometres

Your journey continues up to the White Mountain National Forest for a two night stay in charming Bretton Woods. Being located in the heart of the White Mountains, no matter what time of the year you travel, there is so much to experience in this picture-postcard region. In Summer and Autumn, you can enjoy a round of golf, mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, or try out a spot of fly fishing. Looking for something a little more adventurous? Why not take the cogwheel train to Mount Washington, New England’s highest peak, and walk around the observatory? When winter arrives, the White Mountains become the largest ski area in New England, with a plethora of winter activities available from skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, dog sledding and so much more.

Accommodation

119 Miles / 191 Kilometres

The quaint village of Stowe, Vermont is the next stop. Here, you’ll spend a further two nights exploring the third New England state on your itinerary. Stowe is a destination for year-round outdoor recreation, art, culture and history, so your next two days are sure to be actioned-packed. In the summer months, there is something to do on land, on water, and even in the air. There are miles of hiking and biking trails to explore, Hot Air Balloon tours that take you up high in the sky to marvel at the views, and on water, there’s an array of canoeing, kayaking, and boating options. Fall in Stowe brings the explosions of autumn colour for which Vermont is internationally famed. The brilliance of Stowe’s fall foliage adds an extra dimension of enjoyment to every outdoor pursuit. In the winter months, you can experience sleigh rides and dogsledding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing cross-country skiing, ice skating and so much more.

Accommodation

67 Miles / 108 Kilometres

Your next stop in Vermont is Manchester, which is nestled at the foot of Mount Equinox in the Green Mountains. Manchester offers a tranquil old-world atmosphere with an array of quaint antique shops, boutiques, and cosy country inns to explore. Outdoor exploration has to be on the agenda, as there are many hiking trails available. For beginners, we recommend taking the trek through Merrick Forest. For the more advanced hikers we suggest Prospect Rock, which is a three-mile hike, mostly uphill, that offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. Manchester is not only about the outdoors and magnificent scenery, but it is also one of New England’s top shopping destinations. Whether you stroll through the village or head for the big-name outlet stores in Manchester Centre, avid shoppers will be spoilt for choice.

Accommodation

132 Miles / 212 Kilometres

The final leg of this incredible journey is back in Massachusetts, in the beautiful and prestigeous town of Lenox. Nestled in the scenic hills of the Berkshire region, Lenox is the perfect choice to end this charming itinerary. Perhaps you could spend some time hunting for those all-important holiday souvenirs in historic downtown Lenox, where you will find high fashion boutiques, antique shops, fine art studios, and locally handcrafted goods. If you fancy one final adventure, why not take to the hiking and biking paths of the Pleasant Valley Sanctuary to immerse yourself in the vibrant colours of the Lenox mountains?

Accommodation

This morning you may have time for some last-minute sightseeing before making the 132 mile journey back to Boston International Airport, to return your car and check-in for your flight to the UK.
