Pick up your motorhome at Fraserway RV in Whitehorse and head north on the Klondike Highway. Be sure to stop at the Braeburn Lodge for their incredible cinnamon buns! In Carmacks, perhaps take some time at the Tagé Cho Hudän Interpretive Centre where you can learn about the Northern Tutchone culture. Next on the agenda is Five Finger Rapids, where many make the short hike down to the rapids. In Stewart Crossing you will turn onto the Silver Trail and make your way toward Mayo. Once in town, you can opt to visit the local museum or go for a swim at Mayo’s heated outdoor pool. It will be late afternoon before you arrive in Keno City at the end of the Silver Trail.

Spend the day exploring the town of Keno and its surrounding area. Visit the Keno City Mining Museum & Alpine Interpretive Centre and take a stroll around town to view its impressive historic buildings. In the afternoon you may decide to drive up Signpost Road to Keno Hill. There are old mining structures along the way and an amazing viewpoint (NOTE: it is recommended to check the current road conditions at the museum before your departure).

You’ll depart Keno City this morning and drive back to Stewart Crossing, taking the Klondike Highway toward Dawson City. Your stops should include Moose Creek Lodge, Gravel Lake, Tintina Trench and of course, the Klondike River. Upon arrival in Dawson City there are lots to keep you entertained. We suggest following the trail from the end of the Yukon River Campground, which hugs the river and ands at the Paddlewheel Graveyard.

Just wandering around town is a stunning sight, with brightly hued historic buildings creating a patchwork of colour. Make sure you visit the SS Keno, a preserved historic sternwheel paddle steamer located on the waterfront. If you are interested in its history, you can tour this National Historic Site with a guide. Another popular sight is the Robert Service Cabin, where you can listen to poetry readings. Take time to drive to the top of the Dome in the evening, where spectacular sunsets and a stunning 360 degrees view of Dawson City, the Klondike and Yukon Rivers can be enjoyed.

You will leave Dawson City via the iconic Top of the World Highway. This largely unpaved road runs on top of the mountain range and provides breathtaking views of the surrounding area. Be sure to have your passport ready for the border crossing into Alaska! Once you cross the border the Taylor Highway is quite a bumpy, winding mountain road and a joy to travel.

To reach your next destination you’ll depart Chicken on the Taylor Highway in a southbound direction, heading for Tetlin Junction. From here, the Alaska Highway will take you to Beaver Creek back across on the Canadian side of the border. Beaver Creek is known as being Canada’s most westernmost community. Departing Beaver Creek, you’ll cross the White River and enter Kluane County, where spectacular views of Kluane National Park greet you. We suggest you spend this evening on the shores of the White River at the Lake Creek Campground.

After departing your campground, you may want to visit the world’s largest gold pan in Burwash Landing. You are heading south, so your route follows the western shoreline of Kluane Lake, offering spectacular views and photo opportunities along the way. The Tachäl Dhäl Interpretive Centre is a great place to get information about local hikes should you wish to hit the ground for a while. Remember to keep an eye out for Dall Sheep who frequent the nearby hills. Once back on the road, a little further south you will find the ruins of Silver City, with a former trading post, roadhouse and Northwest Mounted Police barracks.

Today will mainly be a day of leisure, where you can simply relax or go hiking, biking or rafting. Haines Junction Visitor Information Centre can assist with recommendations and booking excursions. Tonight is a real treat. Kathleen Lake is the only lake in the Yukon with landlocked Sockeye Salmon (Kokanee), and a great place to spend the night.

Before leaving, why not enjoy a leisurely walk on the Kokanee trail at the lake’s day-use area? Your afternoon could be spent in a myriad of ways. One option is to embark on a breath-taking glacier flight from Haines Junction to see Mount Logan – Canada’s highest mountain and the world’s largest non-polar ice fields. After an informative stop learning about the short-lived Kluane Gold Rush in Canyon City, you will arrive at your campground.

Welcome back to Whitehorse! Begin your return stay with a visit to the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre. This award-winning building celebrates the heritage, culture, and contemporary way of life of the Kwanlin Dün citizens. We suggest a wander along the riverside trail to the MacBride Museum and a visit to see historic S.S. Klondike.

It’s only a short drive back to the Fraserway Depot this morning, where you return your rental and make your way to Whitehorse Airport in preparation of your flight back to the UK.
