Explore Pennsylvania, from its majestic mountains to magnificent museums and from exciting cities to remote villages. This delightful itinerary includes Pittsburgh, Gettysburg, Lancaster, Hershey and Philadelphia, providing a great insight into the states past, present and future. This fly drive includes:
Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Philadelphia. Upon arrival collect your rental car and proceed to the Marriott Old City hotel in Philadelphia.
Steeped in history, this marvellous city combines the old with the new, offering perfect opportunities for superb sightseeing, excellent shopping, wonderful dining and cultural activities. During your exploration of America’s ‘Birthplace of Independence’ you can visit the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Franklin Court and Betsy Ross House.
Today, you head west out of Philadelphia for Gettysburg, one of the state’s most historic towns. We suggest a stop in Lancaster en route, where you can enjoy a traditional lunch in one of the quaint restaurants. Once in Gettysburg, you can visit the great battlefield where one of the most decisive battles of American and world history took place during the Civil War. You may wish to visit the Eisenhower National Historic Site, home of the World War II Commander of European Allied Forces.
Continuing west across the state, you arrive at Pittsburgh, a city full of surprises. With so much to see and do in this wonderful city, you will be kept busy during your three-night stay. Make sure you visit the Andy Warhol Museum as well as Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens and spend at least one evening at the riverfront entertainment complex at Station Square.
Although one of the longest drives today, it’s also one of the most scenic! Shortly before you arrive in Hersheym you have the option of enjoying a stop in Harrisburg. Hershey is home to the world-famous Hershey chocolate. For those with a sweet tooth, make sure you visit Hershey Park, where 33 million Hershey Chocolate Kisses can be produced in a single day! For a different flavour of the area why not take the time to visit one of the local Amish communities to see how they live their basic lifestyle?
Back in Philadelphia, the fifth largest city in the United States you have time for any sightseeing that you didn’t manage to do the first time around. Perhaps make a visit to the Waterfront District, Chinatown, or one of the many entertaining museums. Don’t forget that Pennsylvania has tax-free clothes shopping!
After a last-minute dash to Franklin Mills or the King of Prussia malls, it’s time to return to the airport, where you will return your rental car and check-in for your flight back to the UK.
