If you are looking for an itinerary which explores all the key locations in Tennessee then this is the option for you. You’ll have ample time to explore Memphis, Nashville, Bristol in the Appalachian Mountains and Pigeon Forge, which is also the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains. This fly drive includes:
Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Memphis International Airport. Upon arrival, transfer independently to the Guesthouse at Graceland. This wonderful property is located close to Graceland, which is a short drive from downtown. If you prefer a downtown location we have a range of Memphis hotels to choose from.
Immerse yourself in the city renowned as the home of the blues and the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll. We’ve allowed three days for you to experience Memphis, as there is so much for you to explore. Of course, no visit to Memphis is complete without touring Elvis’s home of Graceland, and the Elvis museums and exhibits which surround it. In addition, don’t miss a tour of Sun Studio’s, and visits to the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, Smithsonian’s Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum and Gibson Guitar Factory. Dining is wonderful in Memphis, with a wide range of culinary options to tempt your taste buds.
Today, you depart Memphis and head from one musical city to another – Nashville, home of country music. The next three days are yours at leisure in one of the most loved cities of the Deep South. Whilst in town, you’ll want to explore some of its musical attractions, such as the Country Music Hall of Fame, Johnny Cash Museum and Rhyman Theatre, before sampling some live music in one of the many honky tonks on Lower Broadway – locally known as the Honky Tonk Highway! Although music plays a huge part in Nashville’s culture, there is much more to explore in the city. Make sure to head down to the water and perhaps enjoy a cruise on the river. Then, for a very different ambiance, Nashvilles newest district Fifth + Broadway offers a vibrant shopping, dining and entertainemnt district which is worth checking out.
Today, you’ll hit the road for a two night stay in Bristol, which is the gateway to the Appalachians. Bristol is a truly unique place. Its ‘Main Street’ is known as State Street because it is divided by a state line, meaning half is in Virginia and the other Tennessee. During your time in Bristol, you will find a plethora of options when it comes to shopping, dining and entertainment. Perhaps the two main attractions are music and NASCAR. Bristol Motor Speedway is an iconic race track, which sits in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Be sure to visit the Birthplace of Country Music Museum, where you can learn about the legendary Bristol Sessions that took place in the downtown area.
For those looking for a little bit of outdoor activity, Bristol has multiple city parks, including Steele Creek Park, which encompasses more than 2,100 acres and features numerous hiking trails around the lake, along with paddleboats, a nature centre, and a golf course. There is also South Holston Lake and Dam to add to your schedule and, lets not forget, this is the gateway to the Appalachian Mountains.
Departing Nashville, you’ll head towards the Great Smoky Mountains in the east of Tennessee, for a final destination of Pigeon Forge. This charming mountain town will be your base for the next three nights. It is home to the famous Dollywood Resort. You can enjoy one of the biggest theme parks in the US and a 35 acre waterpark, all based on the life of the country music superstar Dolly Parton. Take time to enjoy the stunning scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains region by taking a short drive out of town and along one of the mountain trails. The neighbouring towns of Gatlinburg, Sevierville and Townsend are all worth a visit during your stay and accommodation in any of these locations can be substituted if Dollywood isn’t right for you.
It is just a short drive back to Knoxville, where you return your rental car at the airport, and check in for your flight back to the UK.
