Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Tulsa. Upon arrival, collect your rental car and proceed to your hotel. Your first two nights are based in Tulsa, once the oil-producing capital of the nation, it turned from a cow-town to a cosmopolitan city and now offers a distinctive mix of influences.
This morning take the 75 miles drive south east to Tahlequah in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Learn about Cherokee history and culture at the Cherokee Heritage Centre. This vast centre is home to the Ancient Village, Adams Corner Rural Village, the Trail of Tears exhibit and the Cherokee National Museum providing an in-depth look at the Cherokee heritage. Then it’s on to Fort Gibson, the first army post in Indian Territory. In operation from 1824 to 1890, the 80 acre site encompasses 29 historic buildings and numerous archaeological ruins
Leaving Tulsa, you follow part of historic Route 66 enjoying the eclectic towns of Sapulpa, Bristow and Stroud along the way. This afternoon you arrive into Oklahoma City, the largest city in the state. There is plenty to keep you entertained so we’ve given you a full day to explore. The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum features art from the finest contemporary artists in the nation as well as botanical and natural gardens, a turn of the century western town and American Cowboy and American Rodeo Galleries. Bricktown is Oklahoma City’s hottest entertainment and dining area and offers a host of shopping options too. Perhaps enjoy breakfast at Cattleman’s Steakhouse in Stockyard City before you start your journey for Ponca City. The dream of oil baron EW Marland was to live in a palace and Marland Mansion was the realisation of these dreams. The affluent oil man entertained extensively in his 55 room ‘Palace on the Prairie’ and now its your turn to visit. Before arrival in Wichita we suggest two more stops. Pioneer Woman Statue and Museum is dedicated to women who have made outstanding pioneering contributions in space, photography, medicine and settling new lands. Standing Bear is a monumental tribute to all Native Americans, and its surrounding parks feature cultural symbols. Wichita is located at the point where the Big and Little Arkansas Rivers join together and was named for The Wichita Indians. A dozen museums are scattered throughout the city. Old Cowtown Museum is an open air 1870s living history museum on the Chisholm Trail and The Museum of World Treasures boasts an extensive collection of artifacts from dinosaurs and early civilizations. If you’re looking to enjoy the outdoors you’ll enjoy the 136 municipal parks which cover almost 3,000 acres of the city. Beautifully landscaped, many offer walking and biking trails.

Take time to visit the quaint Amish village of Yoder where you can peruse the hand made quilts and then perhaps enjoy lunch at Carriage Crossing Restaurant.
