Joplin is located on Route 66 in southwest Missouri in the four states region encompassing Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas. Known to locals as ‘JOMO’, Joplin is the place for pottery and zinc mines. Travellers across the age gaps come here for arts, pleasure and great history. A booming mining town in the late 1800’s, Joplin is located just one hour west of Springfield. The museum complex in Schifferdecker Park tells the city’s story and renowned Missouri artist, Thomas Hart Benton’s only autobiographical mural graces Joplin’s Municipal Building.
