Considered by many to be the trip of a lifetime, a rail journey aboard Rocky Mountaineer promises to be a magical experience. With the spectacular scenery of British Columbia and Alberta as a backdrop, every corner turned brings into view another picture-perfect landscape.

Imagine being able to scale the sides of mountains or weave alongside steep canyons – all without having to worry if you brought the right shoes. With Rocky Mountaineer, they’ve got you covered (in luxury that is). Rocky Mountaineer offers three distinct routes each showcasing the diverse beauty of Canada’s West along historic train routes constructed over 100 years ago.

FIRST PASSAGE TO THE WEST
Named for the pass over which it crosses, the train commences its journey in Vancouver where you will travel through the legendary Spiral Tunnels and pass by Craigellachie, the spot where the last spike on the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven. Your adventure through the Canadian Rocky Mountains includes an overnight stop in Kamloops before reaching its final destination of Lake Louise of Banff. This route also operates in the opposite direction. Passengers enjoying this two-day route will see one of many highlights, one being the Cisco Crossings, where the CP and CN rail tracks overlap. The orange truss arch bridge, one of two bridges, is the largest single-span bridge on the CN line at 247 metres (812 feet) long.

Route Highlights: Hell’s Gate – Cisco Crossing – Spiral Tunnels – Avalanche Alley – Jaws of Death Gorge – Black Canyon – Hoodoos – Stoney Creak Bridge – Rogers Pass – Kicking Horse River – Castle Mountain – Mount Rundle

Operates: April to October

JOURNEY THROUGH THE CLOUDS
Witness the unparalleled beauty of the highest peaks in the Canadian Rockies and the remote vistas of Canada’s West. Your adventure starts in Vancouver and follows the same legendary journey to Kamloops where an overnight stop is taken, then takes the higher route through the scenic valleys and the Canadian Rocky Mountains to a final destination of Jasper. This route also operates in the opposite direction. Known for the abundance of wildlife, make sure you keep your eyes peeled for one of Canada’s favourite animals at Moose Lake! As the name of this lake suggests, there is a good chance you may spot a moose on the lake’s shore. This two-day route also includes a visit to Hells Gate where every minute 750-million litres of water crashes through a narrow 33-metre (108-foot) wide gorge – double that of Niagara Falls.

Route Highlights: Fort Langley – Hells Gate – Cisco Crossing – Rainbow Canyon – Avalanche Alley – Jaws of Death Gorge – Black Canyon – Pyramid Falls – Albreda Glacier – Moose Lake – Yellowhead Lake – Mount Robson

Operates: April to October.

RAINFOREST TO GOLD RUSH
Carve through extreme landscapes like BC’s coastal rainforest, the rugged Fraser Canyon, and the historic Cariboo gold rush region. The Rainforest to Gold Rush route is a three day journey, commencing in Vancouver. Day one follows the Sea to Sky Corridor to Whistler, alighting the train in Pemberton where a 35 minute coach transfer is made to your hotel in Whistler. Day two follows the mighty Fraser River to Quesnel where a second overnight stay is taken. On day three the train climbs through the Rocky Mountain Trench and Cariboo Mountains to its ultimate destination of Jasper. This route also operates in the opposite direction.

Route Highlights: Cheakamus Canyon – Brandywine Falls – Green Lake – Fraser River Bridge – Pavilion – Painted Chasm – Deep Creek Bridge – Cottonwood River Bridge – Moose Lake – Yellowhead Lake – Mount Robson

Operates: April to October.
