Itinerary
Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Tulsa. Upon arrival, collect your rental car and proceed to your hotel. Your first two nights are based in Tulsa, once the oil-producing capital of the nation, it turned from a cow-town to a cosmopolitan city and now offers a distinctive mix of influences.

This morning take the 75 miles drive south east to Tahlequah in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. Learn about Cherokee history and culture at the Cherokee Heritage Centre. This vast centre is home to the Ancient Village, Adams Corner Rural Village, the Trail of Tears exhibit and the Cherokee National Museum providing an in-depth look at the Cherokee heritage. Then it’s on to Fort Gibson, the first army post in Indian Territory. In operation from 1824 to 1890, the 80 acre site encompasses 29 historic buildings and numerous archaeological ruins

Leaving Tulsa, you follow part of historic Route 66 enjoying the eclectic towns of Sapulpa, Bristow and Stroud along the way. This afternoon you arrive into Oklahoma City, the largest city in the state. There is plenty to keep you entertained so we’ve given you a full day to explore. The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum features art from the finest contemporary artists in the nation as well as botanical and natural gardens, a turn of the century western town and American Cowboy and American Rodeo Galleries. Bricktown is Oklahoma City’s hottest entertainment and dining area and offers a host of shopping options too. If you’ve time to spare visit Oklahoma City’s stockyards, the largest feeder cattle market in the world. Watch the cowboys working the livestock and feel the excitement of the auctions!

Travelling west from Oklahoma City into the sweeping plains of Kansas, the drive to Dodge City captures the essence of a classic American road trip. As the city skyline fades in the rear-view mirror, the landscape opens into endless horizons, rolling grasslands and big skies that define the journey across the heart of the Midwest.
On arrival in Dodge City, the Old West comes vividly to life at the Boot Hill Museum, where frontier stories, historic buildings and live reenactments bring its cowboy past into focus. Wander Front Street for saloon-style nostalgia, explore the town’s western heritage along the Dodge City Trail of Fame, and soak up the atmosphere of a place shaped by traders, settlers and legends of the frontier.

Arriving in Wichita, Kansas’ largest city, you’ll find a mix of culture, green spaces and riverside charm. Step back into the past at the Old Cowtown Museum, wander the scenic Arkansas River trails to the iconic Keeper of the Plains, or meet wildlife from around the world at the Sedgwick County Zoo. For a quieter moment, the botanical displays at Botanica Wichita offer a peaceful contrast to the city’s lively cultural scene.

Driving south you follow the remainder of the Flint Hills Scenic Byway, then southeast to Sedan which is surrounded by beautiful wooded hills and has a quaint downtown with boutique Victorian stores. The Emmett Kelly Museum, filled with memorabilia honours the famous clown and his sad-faced character Willie. Then your final stop is Bartlesville, the town that oil built! Your accommodation is in Price Tower, Frank Lloyd Wright’s only build skyscraper. Whilst in town visit the residence of the famous oil baron.

It’s just a short drive today to Tulsa. Stroll Cherry Street and the historic shopping district in the heart of town, visit The Gilcrease Museum’s collection of fine art and artifacts and The Philbrook Museum of Art, which is located in the 1927 Italianate-style mansion of oilman Waite Phillips. Finally, take a trip back in time wandering the antique shops and tea rooms at the heart of Jenks downtown district. West of the river its fondly known as the crafts capital of Oklahoma.
