Begin with a stay in vibrant Portland before heading to the historic riverfront town of Astoria, where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean. Famous as the filming location of the cult classic The Goonies, Astoria is packed with character, Victorian architecture and fascinating maritime heritage before you continue south to the picturesque coastal town of Florence.

Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Portland. Upon arrival, make your own way and proceed to the Hotel Zags Portland, where you will be based for the first three nights.
Wake up to your first morning in the Pacific Northwest and enjoy the next two nights exploring Portland, Oregon’s vibrant and creative largest city. Today is the perfect opportunity to settle into the city’s laid-back atmosphere. Nestled between the Willamette and Columbia Rivers, Portland is renowned for its eclectic neighbourhoods, thriving food scene, independent breweries and beautiful green spaces.
Spend your time exploring the city’s famous food cart pods, browsing the city’s unique shops and cafés in the Pearl District and Northwest Portland, or take a stroll through Washington Park, home to the beautiful International Rose Test Garden and Portland Japanese Garden. With no sales tax in Oregon, Portland is also one of the best shopping destinations in the Pacific Northwest, making it the perfect start to your Oregon Coast adventure.
After checking out of Hotel Zags, collect your rental car from the downtown Portland car hire depot before beginning the scenic drive to Astoria, Oregon’s oldest city. Perched where the mighty Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean, Astoria is a charming waterfront town with a rich maritime heritage, colourful Victorian homes and a thriving arts scene.
Enjoy the next two nights exploring Astoria’s historic streets, fascinating museums and bustling riverfront. Best known as the filming location of the beloved 1985 adventure film The Goonies, fans can visit many of the movie’s iconic locations, including the famous Goonies House (viewed respectfully from the public road) and other recognisable filming sites around town. Beyond its Hollywood fame, climb the Astoria Column for panoramic views, explore the waterfront aboard the historic Riverfront Trolley, and savour fresh Pacific Northwest seafood at one of the town’s welcoming restaurants. Astoria offers the perfect blend of film history, maritime heritage and spectacular coastal scenery before you continue your journey along Oregon’s breathtaking coastline.
After checking out of your hotel, continue south along one of America’s most spectacular coastal routes as you make your way to Florence for a two-night stay. Following the scenic Oregon Coast Highway, you’ll pass dramatic headlands, sandy beaches, charming seaside communities and some of the state’s most iconic viewpoints, making the journey just as memorable as the destination.
Nestled where the Siuslaw River meets the Pacific Ocean, Florence is a picturesque coastal town renowned for its historic Old Town waterfront, boutique shops and excellent seafood restaurants. During your stay, explore the nearby Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, visit the striking Heceta Head Lighthouse, stroll along the harbour or simply relax and soak up the laid-back coastal atmosphere. Today it’s time to bid farewell to Oregon’s spectacular coastline as you make the scenic drive back to Portland Airport for your early evening flight home. Before reaching the airport, why not take a detour through the renowned Willamette Valley, Oregon’s premier wine region, where rolling vineyards, welcoming tasting rooms and picturesque countryside provide the perfect final taste of the Pacific Northwest.
Allow plenty of time to enjoy the journey before continuing to Portland Airport, where you will return your rental car and check in for your flight back to the UK, taking with you unforgettable memories of Oregon’s vibrant cities, dramatic coastline and charming small towns.
