The Pacific Coast Highway is one of the most spectacular scenic drives you’ll find, so this journey is guaranteed to create a lasting memory.

Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to San Francisco. Upon arrival, transfer independently to your hotel in Fishermans Wharf, conveniently located to enjoy all the delights of this waterfront setting.
San Francisco is perhaps one of the most enchanting cities in the United States. From the crooked street in the world, Lombard Street, to Alcatraz and Fisherman’s Wharf; Union Square to the Cable Cars; Chinatown to the Golden Gate Bridge – the city is packed with things to see and do to suit everyone.
This morning collect your rental car in preparation of your coastal adventure. You start your route south with a destination of the beautiful coastal town of Monterey, where a pretty waterfront is filled with quaint shops, restaurants and an accliamed Aquarium. On your second full day, perhaps head over to Carmel, to browse the charming tree lined streets and galleries.
Today, you continue your route south, with a destination of San Simeon. Perhaps most well-known for Hearst Castle, the grandiose estate of publisher William Randolph Hearst and a wondrous place to explore. Tucked between the Coast Range, the Pacific Ocean and right in the middle of Central Coast Wine Country, San Luis Obispo enjoys all the spoils of a life well lived on the California coast.
Todays Highway 1 venture, takes you through the heart of the wine region, where you may choose to stop and tour a vineyard or enjoy a tasting. Santa Barbara, silhouetted against the Santa Ynez Mountains, is a popular seaside town filled with character and exceptional architecture. Larger than most of your other coastal stop, this is an opportunity to enjoy fine dining and great shopping, as well as a wealth of attractions. If you’re interested in gardens, Santa Barbara county has a fabulous range for you to visit including the botanical gardens of Lotusland and Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens. The warm Pacific waters off the coast of Santa Barbara are a great place to experience whale watching so try and get out on a whale watching cruise.
If you choose to continue along Highway 1, your route to Los Angeles will take you through the renowned beaches of Malibu and Santa Monica. Your accommodation is in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles, a few steps from Hollywood Boulevard where you’ll find the famous stars on the pavements, and adjacent to TCL Chinese Theatre, Hollywood & Highlands Centre and The Hollywood Museum. The delights of Beverly Hills and downtown LA are a short drive away.
Its a short drive to the beaches, which allows you plenty of time to discover these golden-sand gems. It’s time to relax by the beach. Newport Beach, Sunset Beach, Laguna Beach and Dana Point all beckon you to visit, but your two nights are spent in ‘Surf City California’, – Huntington Beach. Your hotel is ideally located across the road from some of the best surfing California has to offer and a short stroll from its quaint Main Street.
It is only a couple of hours to San Diego, so we suggest a visit to Oceanside and Carlsbad en route. Your hotel for two nights is in the Mission Bay region of San Diego. Be sure to spend some time on the island of Coronado, take in the shopping and attractions of Gastlamp Quarter, absorb the Mexican charm of Old Town and the incredible dining at Little Italy.
The airport is located less than 10 miles away, so you can enjoy you day exploring San Diego or relaxing on the beach, before making your way to San Diego International Airport, returning your car rental and checking in for your flight back to the UK.
