Elk Island National Park

Elk Island National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve just 35 minutes east of Edmonton, offers rolling hills, glassy lakes, and star-filled skies. Home to herds of bison, elk, and over 250 bird species, it is one of North America’s premier wildlife viewing destinations. Spring brings a chorus of birdsong and newborn bison calves, while dawn and dusk are the best times to spot wildlife, as many animals shelter in trees during the day.

Year-round, the park offers immersive hiking experiences through varied landscapes. Wander shadowed black spruce bogs, breathe in the earthy scents of moss and peat, and emerge into sunny aspen forests. Trails wind through wild rose and beaked hazelnut shrubs, with the crunch of autumn leaves underfoot and the haunting bugle of a bull elk in the distance, creating unforgettable encounters with nature.

Fort McMurray

A scenic four hour drive north of Edmonton brings you to Fort McMurray, at the junction of four rivers, nestled in the beauty of the boreal forest in north eastern Alberta and the great outdoors. Summer is all about hiking, boating, biking and basking on the beach at Gregoire Lake Provincial Park.

Fort McMurray has three 18 hole golf courses set in the beautiful boreal forest. In Alberta’s north the sun sets a lot later in the day enabling you to golf longer on warm summer evenings. Fishing in pristine wilderness is available year round in the north. Reel in a trophy fish from a remote crystalline lake in warmer months.
