Drumheller, in the heart of the Canadian Badlands, lies 68 miles northeast of Calgary in the Red Deer River valley, often called Dinosaur Valley. The area is famed for unique sandstone hoodoos, some 20 feet tall, naturally carved by wind and water over millions of years. Just a 10-minute drive away, Horsethief Canyon offers breathtaking views and adventurous hikes into the canyon that once sheltered outlaws.
Drumheller is home to the world’s largest dinosaur statue, an 86-ft, 65-ton T. rex with 106 steps to climb for stunning valley views. The Royal Tyrrell Museum houses hundreds of thousands of dinosaur fossils and artefacts. Visitors can also cross the 117-meter Rosedale Swinging Bridge over the Red Deer River, where plaques mark its mining-era history, and capture the Badlands’ otherworldly landscapes.
