The Calgary Tower ensures all “Virtual Tourists” are treated as warmly and as openly as the half a million “Reality Based Tourists” who visit each year! Officially opened June 30th 1968, the ‘Tower’ has become the City of Calgary’s most famous and identifiable physical landmark. One of the first Towers of its kind, the Calgary Tower offers the best view in Calgary
and is a must-see on any itinerary. Throughout the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, a flame burned at the top of the Tower, making the Calgary Tower the World’s Largest Olympic Torch. The torch is still lit today for special occasions, like Canada Day, sparking fond memories as well as a certain civic pride in all Calgarians. Visitors to the Observation Deck will be able to virtually “step out into” space on the glass floor experience. Imagine standing 525 feet above the ground in the heart of Calgary and being able to look straight down and directly out in front of you into the heart of the city. Transfers are not included.

DEPARTS: CALGARY
Every building tells a story. Calgary’s downtown spins a yarn of a brash frontier town that has grown into a lively urban center. Walk outside as weather permits – or inside using the +15 Skywalk network as you straddle with one foot in the past and one in the present, following a “ribbon of steel” through the heart of the city. As your tour guide navigates around such areas as Stephen Avenue Mall, the Bow River Pathway, and other downtown areas, you’ll have an on-the-ground experience that Google Earth could never deliver. You’ll learn where Calgarians go for fine food and dining and discover where some favourite spots to shop in downtown are located. They’ll even talk about accessing free public transit in the downtown core to make your own exploring more enjoyable. You may hear the echoes of history at the site of an 1880’s sawmill and the location of the 1988 Winter Olympics awards ceremonies – and perhaps modern day music from the Folk Fest held at Prince’s Island Park. This tour is approximately 2.3-3km long and is lead at an easy walking pace.
